Pastor's Connection

This past Sunday evening South Gate ordained Denny Reeves to the Gospel Ministry and Dane Hutchins to Deacon Ministry. These two men and their wives are proven servants. What ordination represents is recognition of ministry already being done. 

 

Dane has been serving as a “yokefellow” for several months. He has been meeting with the active deacons at South Gate and taking ministry assignments that have been given to him. Dane brings a young perspective to our deacon ministry that is extremely helpful as we discuss being more effective in reaching a younger generation. 

 

By ordaining Denny we will be able to move him into an Associate Pastor role. Denny is very capable of teaching and leading worship services.  He now has the credentials to perform weddings and conduct funeral services. Denny has been leading and assisting in many areas ever since the church called him eleven months ago. The ordination opens more doors and opportunities for ministry for him. Pray for these two men as they continue to serve their Lord at South Gate. 

 

Both of these men have the strong support of their wives, Paula Reeves and Colleen Hutchins. They are both committed servants themselves and compliment the ministries of their husbands. 

 

I regret that I did not highlight the ordination service more the past two weeks. More people should have been in attendance. 

 

Denny and Dane’s testimonies, the introductions by Leroy Winkle and Ken Horn were inspirational and powerful. The “charge” brought by Dr. Rodney Reeves (Denny’s brother) was also inspiring and challenging. 

 

South Gate is a healthier, stronger church because of the ordination of Denny and Dane. The weight on my shoulders is lighter. 

 

I love these two men, their wives and children. Hey, I love you too.

*Family Bowling Bonanza! - (Preschool- 5^th grade & Parents)Sunday February 26^th, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., @ Lighthouse Lanes!  $5.00 per person ($20 max per family).  Includes 2 games, shoes, and light snacks.  Please sign up at the Bowling display in the Kids Connection Lobby to help us get an idea how many to plan for.  Bring your socks, BRING YOUR FRIENDS, and let’s “strike” up some fun!!!

 

*Circle of Love Women’s Ministry – “Soul Surfer” the movie will be shown Sunday evening, March 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the Children’s Worship area. Circle “C” on the Connection Card to indicate you will attend. Come and enjoy a great time of fellowship.

 

*B.O.S.S. – Breakfast On Second Saturday – March 10, 7:30 a.m., $5.00 per man/boy, Fellowship Hall.

 

*Please begin Praying for the mission team that will be going to Udmurtia March 13-22. Team members are Nolan Carrier, Dave Lanham, Chuck & Vanece Williams and Debbie Yocom. 

 

*The Watoto Choir will lead us in worship on Sunday, March 11. This will be a special experience you will not want to miss! Invite your friends!

 

*Double Nickels “Bunco” Night - Friday, March 16^th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Bring snacks to share - we’ll provide coffee, tea and the game!  You’ve never played “Bunco”?  It’s okay, it’s easy…and it’ll be a great chance for you to meet others as well!  Invite your friends too!

*Birthday Bags for Missions – Through the month of February, items or monetary donations for the Backpack Missions "Birthday Bags" project for underprivileged children can be brought on Wednesday evenings.  Items needed are:  cake mixes, tubs of prepared icing, birthday candles, cake decorations (sprinkles, etc.) birthday napkins/plates, birthday card w/envelope (boy, girl, or general), and new (or gently used) birthday gift bags. 

 

*Softball Sign-ups – Men you have the opportunity to play on the church softball league. Look for the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the office area hallway, last day to sign-up will be March 11. More information will be given after the team has been formed. If you have any questions contact Matt Carr at 619-7895 or slimdog1313@yahoo.com.

 

*Mission: High Pointe (elementary school in Nixa) needs volunteers over the next few weeks. High Pointe is implementing their first outside food garden and is in need of help… removal of sod, soil preparation and showing students how to plant and care for garden plants.  There are a variety of tasks to be done at various times and you may select a time that fits your schedule and the jobs in which you are interested.  E-mail Bob and Lou Paul at blpaul43@att.net or call 660-620-3774 for more information.

 

*Ronald McDonald House – Bring in your “tabs” from soda cans, pet food, canned goods, etc… and place them in the Ronald McDonald cardboard house on the coffee bar or the welcome desk in the Fellowship Hall.

 

*Attention Ladies – Zumba is offered in the Worship Center on Monday evenings from

6:00-7:00 p.m. for $3 per lady.

 

*HEY KIDS! Come and join us Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in Kids Connection forKaleidoscope with Music & Worship, Backpack Missions, Bible Skills, and Bible Drills. There is also music and Bible fun for preschoolers! Ages 2yrs-5th grade!   Lots of fun!  INVITE A FRIEND!

 

*ATTENTION: College Age Students – “CLEFT”, a new Bible Study group, has started up and meets on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in The Rock. Come check it out!
